One of VDH's services is transporting full containers to the sea terminals and bringing the containers back to VDH. This is done with a terminal tractor. One of our Freight Managers who does this with great pleasure is our Hans.
Hans has been a truck driver for 25 years and has been doing this work for 9 years now. Hans drives daily with great pleasure from the VDH warehouses to the CCT Moerdijk terminal. Did you know that you only need a tractor license for the terminal tractor?
Hans's favorite part of the job is the freedom he has and the contact he has with both colleagues at VDH and at the sea terminal. Everyone knows his name and he knows theirs.
He likes to keep his tractor nice and clean, so he can work in a pleasant and fresh environment.
At the container terminal
Upon arrival, you scan a card with information, and this is registered and approved via an app at the pole. A ticket comes out of the pole with where you need to go. Hans already knows all the places by heart and doesn't actually need the ticket.
When we are inside the terminal, I am amazed. What a large area, I said to Hans, but he said this was nothing. We calmly drive to the place where we will unload the container and receive the new container to drive back to VDH.
It was quite an experience to ride along on the tractor and see how things go on the terminal. I'm already looking forward to my next adventure.
