VDH has made significant investments in the future with the realization of a completely new, state-of-the-art business premises in Ridderkerk. Since early 2026, this location has been fully operational. The building brings together several former locations and offers plenty of space for growth, efficiency, and sustainability.
Johan Nagtegaal, responsible for construction supervision, looks back on the successful project and proudly talks about the end result.
Optimal fruit logistics and repackaging activities under one roof
With this new headquarters in Ridderkerk, VDH has combined the strengths of three former locations: Moerdijk Tradeboulevard, Hazeldonk, and the old building in Ridderkerk. Johan says: "This merger makes our logistics processes even more efficient and allows us to serve customers faster and better, especially in the field of chilled fruit logistics and repackaging activities."
The building features an impressive, large repackaging department on the upper floor and two office levels. The first office level is the new home of VDH, the second floor is rented to customers who want to be close to the logistics operation.
Future-proof and BREEAM-certified: sustainability at VDH
Sustainability was an absolute priority during this project. The building is equipped with solar panels, various electric charging stations, and extensive use has been made of circular building materials. "Contractor Fraanje played a major role in this and ensured that VDH is now truly future-proof for business.
The building is constructed and equipped according to the high standards of the BREEAM Sustainability certification," says Johan. "With these choices, we have significantly reduced our ecological footprint and show in practice that logistics and sustainability go perfectly together."
Investing in well-being: more than just an efficient working environment
"A modern work environment means more than just an efficient warehouse," emphasizes Johan. "At VDH, we also invest in the well-being of our colleagues. That's why the new building has its own gym and cozy recreation areas with, among other things, a dartboard and table football.
We see that colleagues enjoy working here. Those seemingly small additions make a big difference in practice and greatly contribute to engagement and job satisfaction."
Ready for the future: a modern and innovative home for VDH
After about 2.5 years of preparation, the first shovel went into the ground in October 2024. The hard work paid off: after a successful completion in late 2025 and the major move in the first months of 2026, the building is now running at full speed.
Johan looks back with satisfaction on the process: "With this new construction, VDH has taken a big, successful step towards the future. It has become a modern, sustainable, and innovative building where colleagues and customers immediately feel at home and from which we have proudly elevated our service to an even higher level."
